LEAD @ UVA

Learning through Experimentation Awareness and Demonstration

Support Charlottesville Schools

Although the current crisis has led to the cessation of in-person classroom visits and events by LEAD, our volunteers remain dedicated to promoting science awareness and education within our local community. To that end, we are pursing alternative methods to safely provide meaningful connections between young students and our chemistry graduate volunteers. Please stay tuned for new events, as we work with teachers and parents alike, to adjust to this evolving situation.

If you are interested in assisting families who are facing a financial disadvantage due to the pandemic, please consider volunteering with C'ville STEM. Your time would help provide basic supplies for at-home learning. To learn more, check out our Support Your Community page.

ABOUT LEAD

The L.E.A.D. program is dedicated to promoting chemistry through science education and awareness at the local level, through programs at the University of Virginia (such as BLAST), as well as within classrooms across the state of Virginia. Graduate and undergraduate students perform exciting demonstrations and facilitate classroom science experiments for elementary and middle school students in the Charlottesville area and beyond through hands-on, inquiry-based activities. All lessons are developed to be in accordance with the Science Standards of Learning for Virginia Public Schools.
